SEMI-FINAL 2 OF THE RSWS 2022: West Indies Legends vs Sri Lanka Legends Match Report

SEMI-FINAL 2 OF THE RSWS 2022: BY 11IC BLOG

On Friday at Raipur, West Indies Legends and Sri Lanka Legends played the second semi-final of the Road Safety World Series 2022. The West Indies Legends captain Brian Lara called the toss correctly and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. As the Sri Lankans got off to a blistering start, Mahela Udawatte and Sanath Jayasuriya walked out to the middle.

With the score on 26, Darren Powell removed Udawatte for the West Indies Legends. He was soon followed by Jayasuriya, who was captured by Krishmar Santokie. Sri Lanka's innings collapsed after Jayasuriya's wicket, as they fell to 83/5 at the end of the 10.2 overs.

In 21 balls, Ishan Jayaratne and Jeevan Mendis added 37 runs to the innings. However, their partnership didn't last long, as they were dismissed for 31 and 25 respectively. Sri Lanka were in big trouble at 127/7 after 14.5 overs and reaching the 150-mark looked like a distant dream. In their allotted 20 overs, they reached 172 thanks to some useful cameos from the tailenders. West Indies legends Brian Lara and Dwayne Smith walked out with their sights set on the prize. Up front, Lara played some scintillating shots, hitting the boundary rope four times. As a result, he was bowled by Nuwan Kulasekara after only a few minutes at the crease. As a result of Lara's dismissal, Narsingh Deonarine came to the crease to take his team to the finals. In seven balls, West Indies went from 65/1 to 68/4, losing three wickets. As he began scoring boundaries, Deonarine took back control of the game for his team. Unfortunately, his teammates kept on dying at the other end, so he didn't get much support. With his team needing another 32 runs from 15 balls, Deonarie finally fell at 141/6 after 173 overs. A brilliant innings of 63 off 39 balls was played by him. West Indies succumbed to pressure after too much work was left. In the end, Sri Lanka won the match by 14 runs and secured a place in the final. At Raipur today, India Legends and Sri Lanka Legends will play the final of the Road Safety World Series 2022. The India Legends won the inaugural edition of the tournament last year after defeating Sri Lanka Legends.
